A continuing Navy goal is the retention of high quality officers in numbers commensurate with the Navys needs. The accomplishment of this goal requires increased attention to the task of satisfying the career needs of junior officers. In 1966, a 25-item Career Value Questionnaire was administered to active duty NROTC officers. Each item was rated on its importance as a vocational reward and its perceived obtainability in the Navy. The purpose of the study is to relate these responses to tenure status.
