Abstract:

Most polymers with a carbon-carbon backbone deteriorate when used in an outdoors environment, the rate of deterioration depending on many factors. Because polymers are widely used as engineering materials, considerable effort has been spent in investigating changes in physical properties as a function of exposure time. The review discusses some mechanisms accompanying the weathering of polymers, with particular emphasis on photodegradation processes in polyolefins. Author
