Abstract:

An Atlantic Bottlenosed dolphin Tursiops truncatus quickly learned to respond differentially to randomly assorted whistles of four different individuals of another dolphin genus Delphinus. This suggests an acoustic pathway for rapid and accurate recognition of individuals of another genus and opens the possibility for an intergeneric social ordering. Author
