A numerical, baroclinically driven, nonlinear, hydromagnetic dynamo model, which resembles Gilmans 1969 model, is formulated and applied to the sun. According to the baroclinic hypothesis, a stably stratified, but baroclinically unstable region is imbedded inside the convection zone. Because it is impossible at present, to verify this rather adhoc hypothesis observationally, only the plausibility of a baroclinic dynamo model for the sun is investigated. More specifically, is it capable of simulating and maintaining the solar differential rotation andor large scale solar magnetic fields. The model incorporates properties of fluid dynamos and of rotating geophysical fluids.
