Abstract:
Six phenomens that bring about environmentally induced cracking in concrete are mentioned expansion due to the use of unsound cement, the alkali- silica reaction, sulfate attack, corrosion of embedded metal, freezing and thawing, and plastic shrinkage. In all of these phenomena, environmentally induced moisture movements are primary participants in the phenomena that may cause cracking.
