Abstract:

Described in the report is a data acquisition system for a spark-chamber spectrometer, which consists of a unidirectional spark-chamber range telescope with differential pulse-height analysis of the specific energy loss of a charged particle that passes through the triggering telescope. Also described are the concept, design, construction, and performance of pulsed spark-discharge modules The performance characteristics of a high-voltage pulse generator a further study on the interpretation of previous measurements of the fluctuations in the energy loss of 66 and 100 MeV protons in a thin proportional counter some representative experiments that would utilize spark chamber instrument systems for the measurement of charged particle spectra in andor above the atmosphere and the results of two studies on visual sensations induced in the dark-adapted eye by heavy cosmic-ray nuclei.
