Inflammation, due to the pharmacological mediators, sodium urate crystals, or to the allergic response, was studied in mice using the plethysmographic technique for measurement of paw swelling. With this technique it was possible to quantitate the response with respect to dose of the edemogen, and, in addition, to view the onset plateau and regression of the response with time. Experiments were performed dealing with the edematous response of mice to histamine, serotonin and bradykinin. Also studied were the effects of various agents on paw swelling induced by a allergenic agents and also with b sodium urate crystals. Author
