Methods of nonparametric discriminant analysis, an example of which is Kendalls order-statistic method, are of interest because two of the assumptions of linear discriminant analysis, equality of variance-covariance matrices and multivariate normality, are not acceptable in many applications. A number of sampling experiments were performed in order to evaluate Kendalls method and to compare it with linear discriminant analysis on the basis of the expected values of the probability of misclassification.
