Abstract:
The question of the relationship between the nature of alarms and pilots performance is quantitative and a simulator capable of reproducing the same stimulus conditions is essential for comparison of various PWI systems. A simulator capable of generation of realistic stimuli is essential to obtain quantitatively meaningful results. The report summarizes the aspects of pilot behavior related to PWI operation that require study, outlines a model for generation of appropriate threat environments, and describes a simulator facility designed specifically to study the human factors considerations in PWI design.
