An investigation was made of relative voice communication efficiency of oxygen masks equipped with different respiration valves. A practical test protocol was established for quantifying oxygen mask voice communication performance. Oxygen mask voice communication with the standard Sierra Valve and with the proposed Kohler Valve were evaluated using the test protocol. A direct comparison of the findings revealed essentially no difference in voice communication efficiency, as determined by mean work intelligibility, between the two valves. Author
