VLF-LF Ionospheric Channel Characteristics.

Calculated phase and amplitude of the significant components of the total fields from 10 to 60 kHz for models of the normal day and night D-region are presented. Estimates of VLF-LF time delays and dispersions of the dominant components modes and hops are made for a highly conducting ground and no magnetic field for reasonable models of the normal day and night model ionospheres. Amplitude data taken on 22.3, 24, and 37.225 kHz during periods of wide and rapid fluctuations are given and discussed in terms of fading rates and signal strength distributions. Available results on the effect of rough sea on phase and amplitude of VLF signals received below the sea surface is presented. Author
