It is shown that in the non-relativistic case, the ultraviolet divergence in the integrals for the electromagnetic shift of energy of the bound states of hydrogen is due to the neglect of the retardation in computing the matrix elements of the electromagnetic interaction p.A. When the exact matrix elements are used, there is no ultraviolet divergence. For the case of the shift of the ground state, the contributions to the shift from the two closest levels are computed and shown to be very small. Author
