The paper solves the problem of determining the probability of successfully meeting a launch window for a given allowable maintenance time and an early countdown starting time. The solution technique developed in the paper is a Monte Carlo simulation in the form of a digital computer program. Systems exhibiting either multiple or single malfunctions can be evaluated using this technique. There are no restrictions on the number of subsystems being considered or on the types of distributions of downtime and time to failure which these subsystems can exhibit. This technique can readily be applied to other problems having the same basic conditions as the launch window problem. In addition to a description of the technique, an example problem is included to illustrate the use of the method. In the final chapter a summary of the capabilities of the technique is presented along with areas of recommended future work. Author
