Abstract:

The report describes an investigation to evaluate Republic Steel ground mat for use in open-storage areas. The corrugated panels, which are 11-12 ft long, 3 ft 1-58 in. wide, 1 in. thick, and weigh 105 lb each, are connected by overlapping the corrugations and bending tabs into slots. Two test series were run. In test series I, traffic was applied with two forklifts, both carrying various pay loads on three different subgrades, two heavy clay and one sand. In test series II, double layers of mat were placed in two patterns over wet and dry sand. Individual layers were not interlocked. The test sections were trafficked with a forklift, a 2 12 ton truck, and a 5 ton truck. Results are discussed.
