Kinematic polar vector diagrams of higher order are used to calculate the free, nonlinear vibrations of a mechanical system with one degree of freedom about the position of equilibrium. An approximative solution of the equation of motion is given in form of a Fourier-serie in which the coefficients and the fundamental frequency depend on the initial displacement. It is shown that the parameters of the system entering the solution may be interpreted as static moments of certain forces about the center of the plar vector diagrams of higher order drafted for the position of equilibrium.
