Abstract:
The need for recognizing certain potentially serious problems in the development of standard test methods for stress corrosion cracking studies is discussed. The importance of recognizing and satisfying the basic assumptions of the linear-elastic fracture mechanics analysis in experimentation is re-emphasized. The effects of nonsteady-state crack growth, including incubation, must be taken into account in determining the crack growth kinetics. Author
