The article discusses cathode processes during electrical discharges through a dielectric with consideration of the role of electrons moving within the cathode material. Certain assumptions are made to simplify calculations. By means of computations, it is demonstrated that the emission of neutral atoms will depend on the properties of the cathode material, the inter electrode atmosphere and the density of the current in heavy current discharges.
