Abstract:

One of the principal functions of an interactive system is the facility to create an interactive subsystem. That is, to use the general facilities of the primary system to build a secondary or subsystem which projects attributes appropriate to a specific task. In this way, for instance, a library serial maintenance procedure can be provided on a remote computer terminal which is connected solely to a BASIC timesharing system. The process of creating such a subsystem is a distinctive one, due to the inherent nature of man-machine interaction. It becomes even more interesting when the subsystem creation process is a group effort. This paper is the description, partial analysis and evaluation of such a group project. The effects of using interactive systems for such projects are of growing interest. This paper attempts to point out some of the positive and negative factors that must be reckoned within such an environment. Author
