Full-scale measurements of the radiation patterns of simple HF field-expedient antennas dipoles, monopoles, inverted Ls, and slant wires were conducted while the antennas were situated over open level terrain, in a U.S. pine forest, in a tropical forest in Thailand, and under another contract in hilly terrain. The major results from these measurements are summarized and examples of the measured data are presented in the report. A computer model of a short dipole antenna in a homogeneous, isotropic forest medium was developed and the calculated results are compared with measured data from short and half-wave resonant dipoles.
