Abstract:

Feedback theory has had a significant impact in the design of systems for precision regulation, stabilization, and reduction of noise and distortion. Recent results have revealed deeper insights into known uses of feedback and also have led to new feedback system design concepts. The introduction of feedback modifies system structural properties, and it is this modification that is exploited in analysis and design. For example, feedback offers the possibility of meeting parameter tolerance specifications, simplifying design computation by parameter imbedding, maintaining optimality in control systems, and adapting a system to changes in environment conditions.
