The report describes the Data Reconfiguration Service. The problem addressed by the ARPA Network, and by Rand as a participating node, is how to economically share heterogeneous computer resources that are separated geographically. This report describes one of many avenues for resource sharing that are being investigated. In particular, the Data Reconfiguration Service is intended for use when there are holes in standard communications protocols and where compliance with a standard is not desirable.
