Polycyanovinyl, Dicyanomethylenecarbene, and Dicyanomethylene Derivatives of Metal Carbonyls.

The first polycyanovinyl, dicyanomethylenecarbene, and dicyanomethylene metal carbonyl derivatives are reported. Reactions of the polycyanovinyl halides NC2C CHCl, NC2C CCNCl, and NC2C CCl2 with the metal carbonyl anions MnCO5n- and C5H5MCO3n- M Mo and W in tetrahydrofuran solution gives the polycyanovinyl metal carbonyl derivatives NC2C CXMnCO5X H, Cl and CN and NC2C CXMCO3C5H5M Mo and W X H, Cl and CN, respectively. Reaction of NC2C CCl2 with NaFeCO2C5H5 gives a low yield of the cis- and trans-isomers of the dicyanomethylenecarbene derivative C5H52Fe2CO3C CCN2. Reaction of Br2CCN2 with NaFeCO2C5H5 gives low yields of the dicyanomethyl derivative and the dicyanomethylene derivative. Some of the more interesting features of the infrared and n.m.r. spectra of these new cyanocarbon derivatives are described. Author
