Abstract:

The report describes the characteristics of metallic lens and radome in the upper SHF and low EHF frequency range. For the present application, antenna hardness is a requirement, and large waveguide openings are necessary for the passage of debris associated with the blast. Such openings are large in terms of wavelengths and cause grating lobes that deteriorate radiation performance. Design curves are presented for a plano-concave lens, and the concept of using a metallic grating as a radome is described. The severity of the grating lobe effects is verified by measurements performed on a metallic grating. Author
