Abstract:
The purpose of the investigation was to establish capabilities and limitations of the spray-deposition technique using the fiber-resin mixture in providing expedient ground surfacing for military usage. The investigation consisted of preparing small test areas and subjecting them to traffic of a 50,000-lb single-wheel load having 200-psi tire inflation pressure. Three types of systems were tried A sandwich-type structure was prepared consisting of two reinforced-plastic facings and a balsa core Grooves were preformed in the subgrade and reinforced plastic was sprayed over the ribbed configurations and Reinforced plastic was sprayed on the surface of the subgrade to form a flat sheet. The results and recommendations are presented.
