Abstract:
The report describes efforts to characterize the vaporization of graphite, with present emphasis on observing equilibrium ratios of carbon clusters at temperatures exceeding 3000K. An all-carbon Knudsen cell, described earlier, was used with a modified current concentrator and an improved viewing arrangement for the pyrometer. The report describes the work accomplished in testing the modified apparatus and the results of the first species-ratio measurements carried out in the previous quarter. The research is for the purpose to design a mass spectrometer. Author
