Abstract:
The millimeter wavelength spectrum is being utilized more and more to fill specific communication needs to take advantage of the larger bandwidths available and the smaller antenna sizes required. Although the low atmospheric attenuation windows in the millimeter spectrum are most commonly used, it is feasible to use the high attenuation bands to provide an excellent degree of security from unwanted interference or clandestine intercept. Examination of a typical one-kilometer ground communication link at 50 GHz using currently available hardware indicates a high degree of security under virtually all weather conditions.
