Abstract:
The methods and results of the study of the effects of operational SST maneuvers on sonic boom are contained in three volumes. Volume II contains a flight test plan designed to investigate caustics at the ground produced during longitudinal accelerations, circular turns, and steady, level flight at the threshold Mach number. A flight test plan is defined for studying sonic boom phenomena near lateral cut-off. Charts are provided to be used in the field in determining the required airplane position relative to the measuring networks as a function of flight variables and meteorological conditions. Methods are given for calculating caustic locations due to longitudinal accelerations and the lateral cut-off location during steady, level flight. Author
