Abstract:
The scattering of HF radio waves by a spherical electron cloud in the presence of a magnetic field has been obtained in ray optics approximation for a Gaussian distribution of electron density. The objective of this report is to provide knowledge and understanding of the effect of the earths magnetic field upon the propagation of electromagnetic waves through the ionosphere, ionospheric irregularities, and artificial electron clouds. It is thus directed to the furnishing of data, together with criteria, for the solution of Air Force problems of discrimination, detection, and communication.
