Abstract:

The absolute 60Nigamma, n and Fegamma, n differential cross sections at 93 degrees with respect to the incident bremsstrahlung beam were measured near the thresholds for 60Ni and 56Fe, respectively. Time-of-flight techniques were used to determine the neutron energy. For each target, two measurements were done with different bremsstrahlung end points to determine the levels to which the neutrons decay. The absolute bremsstrahlung spectra were determined from neutron time-of-flight measurements for the Dgamma reaction and from the known Dgamma cross section. The 60Nigamma, n data show numerous peaks in the neutron energy region up to 75 keV of these, five definitely decay to the 59Ni ground state. The Fegamma, n data had strong peaks at neutron energies in the laboratory system of 2.1 and 10.0 keV the results indicate that the 2.1-keV peak decays to the 0.411-MeV state in 55Fe and that the 10.0-keV peakdecays to the 55Fe ground state. Resonance parameters for 60Ni and 56Fe states are given for the observed, strong, isolated peaks. Author
