City of Detroit, Michigan Vulnerability of Gas Utilities to Nuclear Attack

The purposes of the report are to determine nuclear attack effects on facilities and capability of the gas system supplying Detroit, Michigan and describe normal system operation and give a functional inventory of buildings, transportation and other support equipment. Gas distribution facilities in 227 sq. mi. of Detroit area, formerly serving 592,900 customers 86.5 of preattack total, are shut down indefinitely by the Comapny. Service is returned to 92, 323 customers. Principal damage to Company facilities is to buildings and contents of regulating stations and storehouses. Postattack transmission system capacity, physical operating personnel, vehicles, communication and supplies are adequate for immediate postattack repair and operation.
