Abstract:

The photochemistry of the dissociation of molecular oxygen by sunlight and the subsequent recombination of the oxygen atoms is a very important process that largely determines the state of the normal atmosphere in the 80-1200-km altitude region, which in turn determines the state of the disturbed atmosphere. The paper addresses one aspect of the problem which has not been treated adequately, namely, the effect of turbulent motions of the ambient atmosphere on the transport of the species O and O2 when they undergo photochemical reaction.
