Abstract:

A study has been made of the free jet flow field of argon heated by an inductive arc and expanded into a low density wind tunnel. The objective was to obtain high expansion velocities, and thus arc operating pressures from 0.4 to 1.0 atmosphere were chosen to ensure near-thermodynamic equilibrium of the gas before expansion.
