A method of estimating source energy levels for shallow underwater explosions used as acoustic sources is developed. The method uses idealized quasi-theoretical pressure-time records and digital processing techniques. The need for such a method of estimating source levels is discussed in light of the fact that when the direct arrival pressure pulse is not time-separable from the surface-reflected arrival, no direct measurement of source level is possible.
