Abstract:

Two approaches have been tried to develop and apply a new method for experimentally estimating, at a far field position, the spectra and intensity of noise originating from unit volume of a round jet, extending to 7 D downstream. Cross-correlation between their filtered narrow-band counterparts, approach 2, has been developed and exploited. The measurements were analyzed via Proudmans form of Lighthills integral further manipulated to apply to the approaches mentioned. The results showed qualitative agreement with some of the earlier theoretical predictions made by Ribner and by Powell.
