Abstract:

The report describes a new instrument to measure many photometric, radiometric, and colorimetric quantities. It has particular application in the characterization of colored signals and visual displays because a single instrument can measure both the luminance and the chromaticity of an illuminated indicating device or display screen. It can also be made part of an inspection system or an industrial on-line quality control process for dyed or painted products, alternately measuring tristimulus color values and total reflectance if desired. The instrument can also be programmed to process spectral information gathered from a target according to two or more differeent response functions. This would enable it to measure more complicated radiometric and photometric quantities such as cone-to-rod dark adaptation ratios. Author
