Abstract:
A useful concept in the study of the effectiveness of feedback in reducing sensitivity to parameter variations in multi-variable systems is that of comparison sensitivity. A sufficient condition was given previously which ensures that the closed loop realization is less sensitive to parameter perturbation than a nominally equivalent open-loop realization. However, a direct application of this frequency domain criterion could lead to a very large amount of computation since positive-semi-definiteness of a matrix function of frequency must be verified for all frequencies. The main contribution of this study is the development of a systematic design procedure which always satisfies the above sufficient condition and thereby avoids the testing in the frequency domain.
