At several of the new Ohio River locks, difficulty has been experienced in fully emptying the lock chamber when riverflow conditions were near the maximum locking stage. Generalized tests of a typical lock culvert outlet basin were conducted in a 125-scale model to investigate the feasibility of basin modifications to reduce the residual head across the lower miter gates.
