Abstract:

The western summit of Union Seamount was located during the 1970 Endeavour cruise using Loran A and echo sounding. A radar transponder Motorola SST-199x A was then anchored near its peak in 175 fathoms of water, and subsequent positions of the ship relative to the transponder determined by Decca radar. The crater physiography, however, remains apparent. As can be seen the detailed survey reveals a rimmed basin on the east flank of Union Seamounts western summit. Author
