Abstract:
Studies were made of the heat treatment and properties of martensite-aged steel containing 12.4 nickel. It was shown that rapid, continuous heating allows a fine-grain structure to be produced in the 950-1, 200C interval. However, no subsequent aging modes can yield satisfactory plasticity. This indicates that the plasticity of Fe-Ni-Co-Mo alloys with high cobalt and molybdenum content is determined more by the continuity of grain boundaries and nature of separation of hardening phases than by grain size.
