Abstract:
The interaction regions between two successive modes in a space-time periodic medium i.e., epsilon, N epsilon sub o epsilon sub r, N sub o1alpha sub 1fKz-omega t where fxi is a periodic function are studied. Geometrical criteria to determine the type of the interactions stop-band, passive, amplifying or self-oscillating from the alpha sub 1 tends to o Brillouin diagram are derived by using a first order Taylor series development in alpha sub 1. These criteria are applied to the cases of sinusoidally space-time periodic dielectric, plasma and uniaxial plasma then the criteria are generalized for the case of generally space-time periodic media.
