Experiments to determine the usefulness of multispectral photography for the remote sensing of coastal water environments were conducted in northeastern Massachusetts, Long Island, New York, and Barataria Bay, Louisiana. Multispectral imagery was associated with in situ spectra and water sample analysis simultaneously obtained. Changes in the amplitude and shape of both the downwelling irradiance spectra and upwelling radiance spectra were found to be associated with the amount and type of particulant in suspension. Author
