Abstract:
It is experimentally demonstrated that the majority of the energy absorbed in plastic deformations is energy of residual stresses. It is established that in the compression of previously stretched copper samples there is first a dissipation of residual stresses created by stretching, and only after this, as higher degrees of deformation are reached, does latent energy begin to accumulate in the sample. There is also a description of an apparatus for determining the absorbed energy in the plastic compression of copper samples previously stretched to various degrees. Author
