Abstract:

Practical information based on foreign press reports on designing and operation of air-cusion vessels is presented. Principal dimension and operating characteristics, hull strength, stability and maneuverability are discussed. A comparative cost-accounting estimate is given for ferry and transport applications of ACV for lines from 15 to 4000 miles long. ACV operation in different sea states is compared by variant of the air-cushion principle involved in ships built by British, American, Japanese, French, and other manufacturing companies. Engineering problems in designing long distance transport ACV are treated near the end of the book. Author
