A testing paradigm has been established to permit rapid and consistent measures of visual acuity in rhesus monkeys. This method seems especially suited to studies requiring rapid measures of sensory function since the amount of time that elapses between the performance of the subject and the determination of the animals acuity is minimal. The basic paradigm is a modification of the von Bekesy tracking task in which the animals task is to constantly adjust the stimulus value around his threshold level. Ten animals have been trained by this method and measures of their visual acuity ranged from 2017 to 2014, consistent with that of well corrected human. Author
