Radical species, which may be generated as intermediates in the electrochemical reduction of nitrosobenzene, can be identified, and their concentrations measured, with electron spin resonance techniques. The applicable experimental approach is described and evaluated for use as a kinetic tool in nitroaromatic cathode depolarizer research. 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl DPPH solutions were used in the calibration studies, and their behavior was critical in the selection of the optimum electrochemical solvent for studies on nitrosoaromatic radicals.
