Abstract:

Consideration of a plane problem for a cylindrical self supported gas bearing is given. One of the sliding surfaces on the pin or the bearing is divided by axial grooves into a number of sectors. A solution is obtained in the form of a series in small powers of the ralative eccentricity. If the grooves are cut on a stationary surface of the bearing, the resulting bearing capacity is found to be greater than in the case where the grooves are located on the rotating pin. With an increase in the Harrison number this difference tends to zero. Author
