Abstract:
An approximate theoretical procedure is presented which may be used to estimate the dynamic plastic response of arbitrarily shaped shells. The influence of finite-deflections is retained in the analysis, but material elasticity, strain hardening and strain rate sensitivity are disregarded. The two particular cases of a complete spherical shell which is subjected to a spherically symmetric pressure pulse and a fully clamped cylindrical shell loaded impulsively are considered in some detail. It is observed that the predictions for these two cases agree favourably with the results of more exact rigid-plastic theories. Author
