The report investigates possible latching mechanisms which could be used to form a memory integral with a thin film electroluminescent display LEF. Some of the various approaches were studied in detail to determine if the electro-optical characteristics of the LEF would make a difference in the expected performance of a latched display. It was found that the high value of capacitance and the sharp brightness vs. voltage relationship of the LEF reduced the requirements on the memory unit. However, more stringent requirements on fabrication techniques for the evaporated LEF indicated that the most practical approach would be an EL-PC feedback structure, with the PC being a photoconductor formed as a photosensitive powder.
