The Baroclinic Structure of the Florida Current.

Nine consecutive days of free-fall, STD data are analyzed in a study of the baroclinic structure of the Florida Current. Mean values averaged over the nine days are used to reduce tidal aliasing. A southward flow is confirmed during the nine day period. Based on this data and previous works, the southward flow appears to be of a transient nature. Comparison of the directly measured and geostrophically computed current and transport indicates that the Florida Current is essentially in geostrophic balance. Author
