The efficacy of two coating systems in preventing corrosion of seal seats similar to those used for the through-hull electrical penetrators on the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV was evaluated under simulated DSRV operating conditions. A very thin .0002 in. to .0003 in. wash primer reduced corrosion of the seal seats for a short period and a thicker .0023 in. to .0025 in. coating system prevented seal seat corrosion for 183 simulated service cycles in pressurized seawater.
